Alias for book information

Jeevs gave me a suggestion to introduce Alias Card before. But I couldn’t include his idea since it is too complicated for analog system. But this idea is revived in different use now.

As I mention before (or at Wiki), we have to record a source of information while taking Reference Card. Source-less Reference Card is useless. In case of taking Reference Card from a single book, however, it become something like routine work to record book information everytime. We have to write Author, title of book, year, pages.

This time the idea of Alias Card become useful. Make a Record Card with book information : Author and year for title of the card, coauthor, title of book, and publisher is the contents. And use Author, year, and page for the Reference Card.

For Alias, I choose not Reference Card, but Record Card. Because when I take many Reference Card, Alias Card with Reference tag is easily buried. By differentiating from Reference tag, it become slightly easy to find the book information. Plus, it will be a “Record” I read the book. :)

# I use the Record Card as book mark. It is also convenient. ;)

Hi, I have been following your work on PoIC with awe, and have just got my first set of correct’s index cards :)

Have you thought about using a customisable rubber stamp, such as one here where you can make up your own text. Enough space for all the details, and then you can stamp the BACK of the index card with it, so it takes up no space on the front of the card, but you will KNOW that the ref detail will be there as it is a reference card :)

Yes it would take a little time to do the letters, so this would be more suitable if you are writing a good number of cards for one book. I will go and get one this weekend and let you know how I get on.

    Hello :)

Thank you for the link to the stamp. This is first time I see such highly customizable stamp!

I think your idea works well especially for research purpose. A time one take really a lot of Reference Cards. A stamp is accurate, and the letters is beautiful.

    Thanks a lot, Akiyo.

It would be fun to use the stamp not only for cards, but also for book, field note, moleskine, everything I have. It is “mine factor” that David Allen said :)
